Relationships change over time. This short check is designed to help you pause and notice how connection currently feels between you and your child across everyday moments of listening, trust, boundaries and emotional availability.
This is not a test of whether you are a good or bad parent. It is a reflection tool to help you notice patterns, strengths and areas that may deserve more attention.
1. Reflect — Answer from your current reality
Choose the response that best reflects what usually happens, rather than what you think should happen.
Ask yourself: What has our relationship actually felt like over the past few weeks?
2. Notice — Look for patterns, not perfection
One low response does not define your relationship. Look across the whole picture and notice where connection feels stronger and where it may be under strain.
• Emotional availability
• Communication and listening
• Autonomy and trust
• Boundaries and guidance
3. Stay curious — What might be influencing this?
Your responses may be shaped by stress, routines, developmental changes, school demands, conflict, health, family transitions or simply a busy season of life.
Ask yourself: What has been happening around us that may be affecting the way we connect?
4. Choose — Identify one area to strengthen
After completing the check, choose one area that feels both important and realistic to work on first.
Try: “This week, I want to pay more attention to ______.”
5. Act — Begin with one small behaviour
Connection often grows through repeated small moments rather than one big conversation.
• Listen for two minutes without correcting
• Ask one curious question before giving advice
• Create one device-free moment together
• Name and appreciate one effort you noticed
• Hold one boundary calmly and clearly

Complete the Connection Check, read your feedback slowly, and choose just one action to practise over the next seven days.
LQ Reflection: A relationship does not need to be perfect to become stronger. Honest reflection can help you notice what is already working and where a small change may create more connection.
